Drexel 64 Princeton 57.

Box Score : HD Box Score

It is a football cliché, but it is still applicable in Princeton’s 64-57 loss to Drexel on Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gym.

When Drexel was on offense during the second half, the Tigers’ defense could not get off the field.

A paucity of stops, a lack of defensive rebounding, a series of turnovers before moving the ball over half court and some possession-continuing fouls all led to Princeton’s fifth defeat in eight games.

It was a contest that the Tigers held the lead for the center 32 minutes of, but Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint implemented what he admitted was a rarely-used pressing, trapping defense to turn a 13 point first half deficit into his squad's third victory of the season.

Drexel scored the day’s final seven points, which broke the game’s second tie.

After pulling even on a pair of Will Barrett free throws with 2:32 to go, the Tigers would not score again.

Damion Lee - who paced the Dragons with a game-high 21 points - took advantage of a defensive lapse to convert a three point shot from the top of the arc and send his team in front on the visitors' next possession.

“We lost our way once again at the end of the game,” head coach Mitch Henderson said.

Ian Hummer had 14 of his 19 in the first 20 minutes. Clay Wilson added 12 off the bench and Will Barrett totaled 10.

The Dragons shot 12-19 after intermission (63.2%) and grabbed offensive rebounds on five of their seven misses. This led to a remarkable 19-4 differential on the glass.

A full recap and postgame audio from Henderson and Hummer can be found after the jump.

Talk about the Tigers' return to Jadwin in the forum.

The Trentonian previews today's game and the Full-Court Press adds additional quotes from the same conversation with Mitch Henderson.

I ran an article welcoming Dan Mavraides to his new team through Google Translate.

Fairfield (4-5) fell in their conference opener to Canisius, 67-55.

Howie Levy's Mercer (5-3) team went into the Palestra and shut down the Penn J.V., 56-41. Mustafa el Amin had 18 for the victorious Vikings.

Georgetown hosts Towson, Oregon State welcomes Grambling State, Richmond visits James Madison and then to cap the day Butler meets Northwestern in Evanston.

Around the Ivy League: It was UConn by eight over Harvard (4-4).

Know! Your! Foe! - Drexel.

Princeton returns to Jadwin Gym tomorrow afternoon and Know! Your! Foe! returns one day prior to preview the Drexel Dragons.

Joining the site to answer my questions is a familiar name for regular readers, philly.com's Jonathan Tannenwald (commemorated via statue above). While Jonathan isn't on the basketball beat as much as he had been in years gone by, he's still a superb point person when you want details on any of Philadelphia's "City Six" teams.

My questions and JT's answers follow after the jump.

If you cover a team the Tigers will face down the line, let us know. I'd love to talk with you.

The official Fairfield press release and Big Apple Buckets have quotes from Sydney Johnson about his contract extension.

The Stags play their first home contest of the season tonight.

There's a preview of tomorrow's game in the Daily Princetonian.

I enjoyed listening to this interview with Pong aficionado Craig Robinson.

Congratulations to Sean Gregory, who wrote the cover story of this week's Time Magazine.

Coach Mitch Henderson - 12/6/12.

Princeton head coach Mitch Henderson and princetonbasketball.com editor Jon Solomon met at Jadwin Gym earlier today to tape the latest installment of their weekly interview series.

Henderson and Solomon discussed a broad variety of topics this time out including a detailed breakdown of Princeton's drastically different visits to Wagner and Kent State, T.J. Bray's penchant for steals this season, what was out of character versus the Seahawks and what that loss taught Henderson about his team, the recently improved defense and if Denton Koon's backcourt length is a possible cause of this improvement and a conversation Henderson had with Ian Hummer before concluding with a preview of Saturday's home game against Drexel.

This exclusive Q&A available after the jump is 16:00+ in length. You can catch up on all of this season's discussions here.

It seems like Dan Mavraides may be on the move from Avellino to Caserta.

Princeton's shooting guards are profiled.

Sydney Johnson signed an extension at Fairfield through the 2018-19 season.

Hun is off to a 2-0 start, due in part to the play of future Tiger Hashim Moore.

An interview with Bill Carmody can be streamed here.

Denver (2-5) declawed Mercer, 69-40.

The Dagger called Princeton's next opponent the biggest disappointment so far this season.

Around the Ivy League: A putback from Justin Sears at the horn gave Yale (3-6) a 64-62 victory at Bryant.

Northwestern/Baylor highlights.

Select plays from the Wildcats' big victory at Baylor - on Bill Carmody's birthday no less.

Wednesday News:

Mercer vs. Denver - 9:00 pm ET

Yale vs. Bryant - 7:00 pm ET

Kareem Maddox was rewarded as the BBL Player Of The Month. Maddox is averaging 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds for Newcastle.

Doc Rivers was sick so Armond Hill ran practice for the Boston Celtics.

Princeton recruit Steven Cook had a season best 25 in New Trier's victory over Niles West.

Georgetown (6-1) trampled Texas in the Jimmy V Classic. Unlike the shorthanded Longhorns, the Hoyas possess staying power.

In what sounds like a very exciting game, Mercer County Community College (4-2) got past Morris 57-56. Mustafa el Amin tied the score on a three pointer with four seconds left and Barry Brockington, who was 11-14 from the line, won it for the Vikings with a free throw that came with :0.6 remaining.

Richmond (7-2) served ODU their worst-ever defeat at the Constant Center, 80-53.

Then there's Northwestern (7-2), who recorded a much-needed and very impressive 74-70 win at Baylor. It was 56-38 Wildcats with 10:25 remaining but intense pressure by the Bears and a stretch where Bill Carmody's team went 1-8 at the line closed that deficit to two. After all that - and I haven't even mentioned the twelve second sequence wherein NU committed three turnovers - Drew Crawford sealed the result with a pair of free throws as just over a second remained.

Two scores of note out of last night - Bucknell 76 Kent State 60 and Tennessee State 76 Drexel 66.

Denver hosts the other Mercer this evening.

Dave Winfield's son is already heading to Penn and now Fran Fraschilla's son has committed to Harvard.

Around the Ivy League: Harvard (4-3) won their fifth straight against Boston College, 79-63. Elon bested Dartmouth (2-4) by 22.

Georgetown 64 Texas 41.

I took the train up to Madison Square Garden for the opening game of this evening's Jimmy V Classic, which saw Georgetown handle Texas by 23. Read on for some bullet point observations I jotted down while viewing the Hoyas in person for the first time this season.
