Inside Mercer County Community College basketball.

During the preseason and first weekend of the 2011-12 season, Mercer County Community College head coach Howie Levy allowed a group of student filmmakers led by director Zohair Zaidi full access inside practices and the team locker room.

The result is a well-made and fairly unflinching "Hard Knocks"-style look at the Vikings from the often quite different perspectives of the coaching staff and the players.

This video is fully worth 20 minutes of your time, though I should warn you it probably would be rated PG-13 for language.

Luke Owings is going down swinging.

Princeton’s annual Reunions bacchanalia begins today and it is doubtful anyone returning for their fifth reunion will have as strong a conversation starter as Luke Owings.

Owings spent the better part of 2012 training for his first boxing match, a bout that was part of the charity event Haymakers For Hope, which raised money up in Boston for research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

His first fight behind him, Owings and I talked extensively last week and you can read Owings' words and watch video of all three rounds after the jump.

Before you dive into the piece, I recommend reviewing this previous interview from last month which provides a great deal of additional build-up detail and background.

Pete Carril's Hall of Fame enshrinement speech.

A treat. Coach Carril is inducted into the Basketball Hall Of Fame in 1997, joined on stage by Butch van Breda Kolff and Bill Bradley.

"The 21 Best Quotes Of The Pete Carril Era."

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about a large box of media guides that a site member generously donated.

While adding the 1994-95 prospectus to my collection, I noticed that three of its pages were dedicated to favorite (clean) quips from coach Pete Carril, who was still two seasons away from his retirement.

I've transcribed this list of wise, funny, profound and eminently quotable lines after the jump. Feel free to add your best Carril declarations (of any rating) in the comments.

The sweet science of Luke Owings.

Former Tiger forward Luke Owings is closing in on five years since he graduated from Princeton. I recently stumbled on the news that in an attempt to both reprove himself as an athlete and develop washboard abs prior to Reunions, Owings would be stepping into the boxing ring for the first time next month.

This upcoming fight is for a good cause too, one that I'm more than happy to help spread the word about. Owings is raising money for cancer research as part of a pugalistic fundraiser titled Haymakers For Hope.

I caught up with Owings on the phone today and he told me more about his imminent bout and detailed training that has taken him from the basketball court to business school into the squared circle.

You can support Owings’ quest by making a donation here. I hope visitors to this site will help Luke exceed the financial goal he's set.

A transcript of our conversation can be found after the jump.

The First-Annual Year End Site Awards!

Last year we looked back on the season by examining a series of small moments. For 2011-12, how about something new?

THE FIRST-ANNUAL SITE AWARDS!

Video: Doug Davis passes Kit Mueller.

With a second half three point shot, Douglas Davis passed Kit Mueller '91 for second place on Princeton's all-time scoring list.

Of course, my camera blurred out for this play but better to see it out of focus than not at all.

Monday, March 19th:
Butler vs. Penn – 8:00 pm ET – CBI – HDNet
TCU vs. Oregon State - 10:00 pm ET - CBI - HDNet

Wednesday, March 21st:
Robert Morris vs. Fairfield - 7:00 pm ET - CIT

A three point try by senior Jason Clark was off the mark at the horn and Georgetown (24-9) saw their season end with a 66-63 loss to NC State. Hoya Prospectus crunches the numbers.

Next year it appears the Hoyas will play a game on an aircraft carrier. Neat.

The campaign continues for Fairfield (21-14), who used a late second half push to defeat Manhattan 69-57 in the CIT. This sets up a "Penn vs. Princeton" meeting between Andy Toole's Robert Morris team and Sydney Johnson's Stags on Wednesday.

Ivy Hoops Online and the Pitt News preview tonight's postseason game. Plus there are apparently three keys to ending Princeton's season.

I took part in a cultural exchange with the site Pitt Blather, answering their questions about Princeton's team.

Should fans of the Panthers care about the College Basketball Invitational?

On the other side of the CBI bracket, Oregon State hosts TCU.
