Tuesday News:

FC Barcelona fell to eventual champion Olympiacos in the Euroleague Final Four on Friday. In the game Judson Wallace scored three points off the bench.

Wallace received extended playing time during his team's subsequent third place game victory versus Panathinaikos, tallying 12 and grabbing four rebounds. Highlights are streaming here.

He might not have made it into a varsity game last season, but Princeton's Tom Noonan is succeeding off the court writing about music and culture, including this thoughtful piece on Tom Gabel from the band Against Me!.

A few recruiting tidbits for today...

There's a wing from Florida who has interest from Princeton as well as other Ivy programs.

A high scoring New Jersey guard whom the Tiger staff reached out to earlier this year has opted for a Division II school.

Heading to Princeton to play football, this Nevada quarterback plans to try out for the basketball team during the Fall workout period.

Northwestern will host Maryland in November's ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

A forward who spent two seasons at Xavier is transferring to Denver.

The first rehab start by Chris Young received a positive review from the Mets' pitching coach.

The NCAA's Rules Committee is addressing issues ranging from court surface consistency, sportsmanship and monitor reviews.



Tuesday News:

Following up on the Harvard Crimson report from before the weekend, the Daily Princetonian polled several current and former Princeton players (as well as select luminaries from other Ivy programs) about a possible conference tournament.

Perhaps more importantly, Soft Pretzel Logic uncovered a serious error in the initial article. The current proposal would eliminate one non-conference game, not one of the 14 meetings between Ivy foes as was originally stated.

Jonathan Tannenwald also has added a quote from Penn AD Steve Bilsky since this piece was originally published.

Mason Rocca spoke on behalf of Olimpia Milano during the National Day to Combat Thrombosis.

Seems like a long shot given the sheer volume of other schools interested but a forward from Newark has the Tigers on his extensive list of suitors.

A sixth freshman-to-be has committed to play for Sydney Johnson at Fairfield.



Saturday News:

Martin Bahar was promoted from Director of Basketball Operations to assistant coach at Fairfield.

A while ago there was some discussion about a big man from South Dakota who apparently was getting a look from Princeton. You can see where he eventually signed here.

Following nine consecutive San Diego strikeouts, Will Venable hit his first home run of the season.

Georgetown's Jason Clark and Henry Sims plus Ivy Leaguers Keith Wright and Greg Mangano were all in the starting lineup of a Portsmouth Invitational semifinal game.

While members of this site have already been well-briefed on the three members of Princeton's 2012 recruiting class thanks to our in-depth profiles of Hans Brase, Edo Lawrence and Mike Washington Jr. those articles were all penned last October before the beginning of their respective senior seasons.

Georgetown (24-8) was solid defensively and executed well offensively in their first round NCAA Tournament game versus Belmont. Late last night in the NIT, Northwestern (19-14) was unable to slow down Washington, the Wildcats' season ending 76-55.

There's good news and bad news about Monday's CBI game. The bad news is that it will not be televised and as of yesterday afternoon Pittsburgh had no intention to offer video streaming on-line. The good news is that it is a breezy 336 miles from one campus to the other if you want to see the contest in person!

I did not realize it had been 16 years since the defending national champion lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. I have a vague recollection of that prior outcome...

A familiar foe awaits Fairfield in the next round of the CIT.

Around the Ivy League: Harvard (26-5) saw their season end with a 79-70 loss to Vanderbilt. Even at 20 with 4:28 left in the first half, a needless second foul by Kyle Casey sent him to the bench and the Commodores went to intermission on a 13-3 run. While the Crimson cut an 18 point deficit down to seven late, they were unable to get closer.



Friday News:

Friday, March 9th
Oregon State (9) vs. Arizona (4) - 9:10 pm ET - Pac-12 Tournament - FSN

Up four with the ball twice in the final three minutes, Northwestern (18-13) went scoreless the rest of regulation and in an agonizing overtime were doubled up by Minnesota at the Big 10 Tournament. The 75-68 defeat likely ruins the Wildcats' hopes for an NCAA Tournament at-large entry.

Georgetown (23-8) dropped a double OT thriller to Cincinnati, 72-70. Five missed free throws were costly to the Hoyas. Our friends at Hoya Prospectus crunch the numbers.

If you had Oregon State (19-13) as the last member of the Carril Cradle still playing come Friday, please raise your hand. The Beavers built a 13 point halftime lead and then had to come from eight back to stun top seed Washington by a pair at the Pac-12 Tournament. Robinson said this result might be the biggest win he's had, including his playing days.

The career of Doug Davis and Princeton's season are both on hold, but the Tigers certainly finished strong.

It appears Judson Wallace is suffering from gastroenteritis.

Wallace's college teammate Will Venable doubled off of the Rangers' Yu Darvish in his first major league outing. After the game Venable - who is striving for more consistency from his swing this year - and Darvish had decidedly different views of this hit.

The senior season of Princeton recruit Edo Lawrence concluded with Canterbury's loss in the New England Tournament's quarterfinal round.

Future Tiger Mike Washington, Jr. ended the year as WESCO 3A's second leading scorer.

While it may drive me nuts when Princeton players call me "Mr. Solomon," I accept that am an adult.

Yet on Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of the Northwestern/Iowa game from which you can watch highlights above, I found myself lying face down on my living room floor at the base of my television like a petulant child throwing a tantrum, fists pounding on the ground unable to take the emotional torture that the Wildcats have pulled me through this season anymore.

...and this was after they won.
