Before the present weekend fully gets underway, I wanted to share with you another two dollar eBay steal that arrived in the mail last night. I've noticed more and more newspapers are selling off photographs from their archives and one such image is the above shot of Bill Bradley, Butch van Breda Kolff and Bob Haarlow '66.
Might frame it now that it is scanned. More information after the jump.
Finally back home with a touch of free time after covering three games the previous three days, I'm chuffed to share with you nine additional photographs ranging between 1980 and 1993 from the collection of David Zeft. Click on any scan to enlarge.
Above, Kit Mueller cuts down the nets at Jadwin Gym after the 1989-90 season finale (you can see part of a Matt Lapin "Senior On A Stick" in the background).
Postgame audio - Coach Sydney Johnson & Maurice Barrow:
Battling back from down 13 points with 14:17 to go, Fairfield (17-13) was able to pull even at 55 against Rider (13-18) on a pair of Maurice Barrow free throws, but could not convert three prime chances in the last minute to either win the game or send the afternoon to overtime.
Barrow missed a pair of free throws – one long, one short - after being fouled on a drop step with :46 remaining and the Stags behind 63-62.
Then, out of a time out nine seconds later the Broncs went immediately inside to Novar Gadson for a quick righty flip and a three point game.
Unlike Princeton at Harvard on Friday, Fairfield opted against the quick two and subsequent foul. Rakim Sanders, who scored 13 of his team best 17 in the second half on a series of strong drives, got a good look on the left wing yet the tying try went in and out.
Rider’s Junior Fortunat was fouled but left both his attempts off the front rim and the Stags got one final opportunities at drawing even. As the clock ticked down from nine Sanders pulled up for a three that sailed long.
The ball bounded into the Fairfield bench while time expired.
I'm delighted to share with you 11 additional photographs from the collection of David Zeft, the majority of which are from mid-1990s games at The Palestra. Some in this set do also date from the early 1980s.
Click any and all to enlarge. Above, a driving Jamie Mastaglio with Pete Carril, Bill Carmody, Armond Hill and Joe Scott watching from behind the referee on the bench.
David Zeft, whose photographs were first shared on the site at the start of the month, came up to me on Saturday night at Jadwin Gym carrying a yellow plastic bag filled with a stack of historic shots from the past 30 years of Princeton basketball.
I've scanned an initial octet of images this afternoon, the majority of which follow after the jump. Some serious treats here with more of equal quality to come down the line. I can't thank him enough.
Above, the overflow Selection Sunday crowd for the 1990-91 made-for-CBS regular season finale against Loyola Marymount. Shot taken by climbing a camera stanchion!
It was a tough conference road loss for Denver (17-8) at Florida Atlantic (10-14) tonight. The Pioneers came from 15 down at halftime, shooting 81% from the floor in the back frame (17 for 21), but let a four point lead get away in the final 14 seconds.
Shavar Richardson made two free throws with :01.1 left to give the Owls the victory.
DU was done in by 7-16 free throw shooting.
Stephen Goldsmith was on hand in Boca Raton and his photos follow the jump.
princetonbasketball.com was founded on April 28th, 1998 in an attempt to provide fans of the Princeton Tigers and Ivy League basketball with the best on-line source for up-to-date news and information. We have since expanded to launch a companion site, Georgetown Basketball News.
As these sites have continued to grow we have increased our coverage to include additional teams with Princeton connections - the Richmond Spiders, Denver Pioneers, Oregon State Beavers, Fairfield Stags and Mercer County Community College Vikings - plus former Tigers playing professional baseball and basketball all over the world. This site is not directly affiliated with the Friends of Princeton Basketball, Princeton University or the Princeton athletic department.
