Hello and welcome to this week's "Throwback Thursday." After the jump you'll find 14 separate scans spanning 1979-1982, culled from seven different programs including player profiles and some vintage ads. Click on any image to enlarge, and feel free to share related memories in the comments or on our forum.
The Princeton basketball team makes a very brief cameo at the 17:40 mark of Outside The Lines' piece on paralyzed Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand.
Jeremy Lin is reportedly in talks with Harvard on creating a co-licensed line of merchandise.
Finally, for those of you planning on traveling to Staten Island next month, I received the following email (which I have edited slightly for length and content):
My name is Whitney Jones and I am the Ticket Manager for Wagner Athletics. I just wanted to contact you and see if you would be able to inform your fans about purchasing tickets in advance for our game on November 28th. It is going to be a big game because we are also doing an earring giveaway to the first 300 fans as well. We have a limited number of reserved VIP seats that are located courtside that they can purchase ahead of time at $30.00 a seat. Our General Admission price for adults is $10 and for children is $6. I can be reached at 718-420-4039.
A direct link to buy tickets can be found here. See you at the Spiro Sports Center.
A January 27 home game versus The College of New Jersey completes Princeton's 2012-13 schedule. The Tigers and Lions will be facing off for the third straight season.
The tip time for the Tigers' matchup at Syracuse has been announced.
Is Rutgers' trip to Jadwin one of the five toughest true non-conference road contest for Big East teams? One writer thinks so.
Northwestern has revealed start times and television information for the Wildcats' schedule.
Michelle Obama spoke at a fundraiser in Princeton yesterday and attendees included her brother Craig, Mitch Henderson and Steve Mills along with current players Chris Clement and Mack Darrow.
The previous day Craig Robinson visited an Obama campaign office in Philadelphia.
As each mentioned via Twitter, Tiger recruits Spencer Weisz and Pete Miller were both on campus this past weekend for their respective official visits.
It looks like paying for parking at Jadwin Gym for basketball games, which was cast off early into last season, is back for the entirety of the 2012-13 slate. The information published by Princeton's Transportation & Parking Services was in error. There's no charge for basketball parking this season, I'm happy to report.
Chris Young made perhaps his final home start at Citi Field yesterday and while Young will likely end his campaign winless in Queens, he again turned in a performance worthy of victory. Young threw six innings of five hit baseball, allowing one earned run while walking two and striking out five. With a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth, the Mets would sweep Miami 3-2.
Northwestern guard JerShon Cobb was suspended from the Wildcats for a year "due to violations of team policy." He will remain enrolled in school.
Bill Carmody joined WGN Radio alongside Athletic Director Jim Phillips.
A forward from Nevada has trimmed his list of potential schools to six, including Princeton.
Princeton Day School product Davon Reed has committed to Miami.
As you've likely heard by now, Shirley Tilghman will step down as president of Princeton in June.
Before she concludes her term, Tilghman will meet with the Princeton Football Association about issues that could also impact basketball such as transfers, "likely" letters and academic standards for athletes.
Last week's first ever "Throwback Thursday" focusing on a collection of Bill Bradley-related artifacts has inspired me to give it another go today. If anything it means that some items I've been long-overdue to file will finally get put away out of sight!
This time out we're looking at assorted early 1980s programs. A cross-section of covers, interesting photos and player profiles can be all found after the jump.
Click on any image to enlarge, and feel free to share memories from any of these games in the comments.
C. Young (4-7) - 6.0 IP 5 H 2 ER 4 BB 7 K 4.39 ERA. 97 pitches, 56 strikes.
Chris Young still hasn't won a game at Citi Field this season, but he pitched well versus Atlanta yesterday. However the Braves yet again trumped Young's Mets, this time in 10 innings.
Congratulations Mitch Henderson, you're the 152nd most-followed Division I head coach on Twitter.
The ESPN profile for Princeton recruit Steven Cook has been updated.
Craig Robinson discusses balancing basketball and politics.
I believe I missed this piece on Dave Blatt the first time through.
Here's the latest collection of videos from various corners of the Princeton basketball family. Above, Craig Robinson speaks at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Princeton's third game in Spain was a 94-72 loss to Lucentum Alicante. You can see a full box score here. The Tigers were outscored in all four quarters.
Four players found double figures for the orange and black, including Will Barrett with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The hosts shot 56.5% from the floor and knocked down 13 three pointers. Lucentum Blogging gathered some more information about the game, which I've translated.
Tomorrow Princeton plays its final contest overseas versus Club Melilla Baloncesto of LEB Oro.
Wisconsin forward Luke Worthington opted for BYU over fellow finalists Davidson, Princeton and Penn.
Inside Northwestern has an excellent interview with Bill Carmody.
Craig Robinson made an appearance on stage at the Democratic National Convention last night.
A familiar name has been added to the Oregon State roster.
Princeton basketball announcer John Sadak also calls games for the Wilmington Blue Rocks and was named 2012 Carolina League Broadcaster.
Brown and Harvard have released their schedules with the latter revealing (not to any great surprise) that the Crimson's visit to Jadwin will be broadcast on ESPNU.
Here’s the latest collection of videos from various corners of the Princeton basketball family. Above, the first six minutes of Princeton's home win over Lafayette from last season.
C. Young (3-5) 7.0 IP 4 H 1 ER 0 BB 4 K 4.22 ERA. 97 pitches, 64 strikes.
Winless in July, Chris Young received decent run support and got back on track in San Francisco. Young retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced as the Mets bested the Giants 9-1.
At the Olympics, the Dave Blatt-coached Russian team secured a spot in the quarterfinals with a one point victory over Brazil. A thrilling final minute of play concluded with Vitaliy Fridzon's falling down, left pocket three pointer that somehow gave his team the 75-74 decision.
Craig Robinson and Oregon State held their first of 10 summer practices yesterday in advance of the team's trip to Europe.
After missing almost all of last season with an injury, Norwua Agho won't be returning for Columbia in 2012-13.
Remember Princeton's close 2010 loss to then-undefeated Central Florida? That's just one victory the Knights have vacated as part of the school's self-imposed penalties
princetonbasketball.com was founded on April 28th, 1998 in an attempt to provide fans of the Princeton Tigers and Ivy League basketball with the best on-line source for up-to-date news and information. We have since expanded to launch a companion site, Georgetown Basketball News.
As these sites have continued to grow we have increased our coverage to include additional teams with Princeton connections - the Richmond Spiders, Denver Pioneers, Oregon State Beavers, Fairfield Stags and Mercer County Community College Vikings - plus former Tigers playing professional baseball and basketball all over the world. This site is not directly affiliated with the Friends of Princeton Basketball, Princeton University or the Princeton athletic department.
