Martin Bahar and Tony Newsom heading to Fairfield.

Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports reports and princetonbasketball.com can confirm that Princeton assistants Martin Bahar and Tony Newsom have both followed Sydney Johnson to Fairfield.

Bahar had already been working out of Connecticut for roughly the past 10 days.

I have no definitive word on possible destinations for assistant coach Brian Earl or Director of Basketball Operations Kendrick Saunders. Either could join Mitch Henderson's staff or may head to other opportunities.



Sunday News:

An assistant coach who is not part of the Carril coaching tree will interview for the Princeton job today.

Andy Katz talked to Sydney Johnson about his departure to Fairfield. Interesting piece, especially if you try and read between some of the lines.

Chris Young was placed on the DL yesterday, retroactive to Monday.

Friday News:

The Princeton Packet talked to a pair of Tiger recruits about Coach Johnson's departure. Current players have been asked to not comment on the situation. The paper also attempts to work through why Johnson left.

Fairfield believes Johnson is part of their vision.

Bill Bradley spoke Thursday at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa.



Thursday News:

Fairfield introduced Sydney Johnson as the program's new head coach yesterday. You can watch the full presentation here (video) and read quotes from Johnson's subsequent conversation with the media here.

Former Princeton player Matt Henshon nails many key issues in Johnson's departure from a variety of angles.

The Associated Press, the Connecticut Post, the Fairfield Mirror and the Trenton Times have more.

Current Fairfield Director of Basketball Operations Tyson Wheeler will serve as an assistant coach on Johnson's staff. There is no word on who Johnson's other assistants will be.

In the eyes of Andy Katz it all came down to money. While I personally don't think this was the only factor, Katz makes a few sound points.

Chris Young joined ESPN 1050 after his first win for the Mets.



Wednesday News:

C. Young (1-0) 5.1 IP 5 H 1 ER 4 BB 7 K 1.69 ERA. 103 pitches, 59 strikes.

Chris Young was a huge part of New York's 7-1 win in Philadelphia. Young struck out seven (video) and became the first Mets pitcher to record two hits in one inning.

The Daily Princeton has more on Sydney Johnson's departure, a decision that leaves many questions.

On the excellent new site Big Apple Buckets, factors I had not initially considered are added - including the Stags' and the Tigers' basketball budgets as well as Princeton's basketball budget compared to other Ivy programs.

Tuesday News:

There are articles about yesterday's surprising resignation in the Trenton Times, in the Trentonian, in the Star Ledger, in the Daily Princetonian and on New Jersey Newsroom. All lack the same thing, which I have also been working for - quotes from Sydney Johnson.

To their credit, the Princetonian did talk to Dan Mavraides, Kareem Maddox and Mack Darrow.

Jerry Carino was the first to seriously suggest Johnson would leave for Fairfield and he now shares three reasons why this change transpired.

SportsProf already has a list of possible replacements.

Both pain-free and excited to start his season, Chris Young makes his Mets debut tonight at 7:05 pm ET in Philadelphia.

Oh deer: Fairfield hires Sydney Johnson.

Chris Elsberry of the Connecticut Post just posted on his blog that Tigers head coach Sydney Johnson has accepted the coaching position at Fairfield.

Princeton Athletic Director Gary Walters confirms Johnson's resignation to ESPN.

The Daily Princetonian talked with Kareem Maddox this evening about the coaching change.

The Fairfield AD's line of "he really wanted us and we really wanted him" does leave a sting.

The school has posted an official press release and will welcome Johnson on Wednesday at 11:00 am ET.

Princeton has countered with their own release here.

With Johnson joining the Stags, Princeton will now look to hire their fifth head coach in the last fifteen years.

Expect additional updates throughout the evening.



Thursday News:

There's a full page advertisement in this week's Sports Illustrated highlighting the work of Gabe Lewullis with Our Future Stars. Lewullis can be seen on CBS this weekend at 3:30 pm ET for Buick's "Human Highlight Reel" - a piece that focuses on his current career as well as past basketball success.

Chris Young ended his spring happy with his health.

President Barack Obama gave a speech at Georgetown yesterday about America's energy security. Here's a photo of him being greeted by a familiar face.

As for the Fairfield job, all I have learned is that this is more of a real consideration than I had expected. There's a lot of message board chatter out there and it is impossible to tell what's true or not but it appears based on what I have heard that this coaching change is not an impossibility.



Wednesday News:

There's an unexpected report out there about Sydney Johnson and the open coaching position at Fairfield. When I first read about this possibility I was surprised, until I learned that the school's president is a Princeton alum. Will try and get more information today.
