Plus/Minus numbers through 10 games.

The Princeton athletic department was kind enough to quickly fulfill my request for plus/minus numbers on each of the Tigers through Sunday's trip to Tulsa.

This chart shows the number of minutes played across the first 10 games this season and the difference in points scored by Princeton while each player was on the floor versus points allowed by the Tigers during the same span.

I've also broken down +/- per 40 minutes for all players who have seen at least 100 minutes of action.

Kareem Maddox - Ivy League Co-Player of the Week.

Princeton senior tri-captain Kareem Maddox shares the latest Ivy League Player of the Week award with Columbia's Noruwa Agho. Maddox's stat lines in the past seven days, both road victories:

Min Pts FG FT 3FG Rebs A S B TO PF
 31 13 4-10 5-8 0-0 4-5-9 5 0 3 2 3 64-61 W Monmouth
 39 31 10-13 10-12 1-1 0-6-6 2 0 1 2 3 82-78 W Tulsa

It is the first time Maddox has been honored as Player of the Week by the league. Maddox was Freshman of the Week in January 2008, scoring eight late points in the final eight minutes of Princeton's blowout loss at Lehigh.

Maddox's net points against Tulsa (+11.5) were higher than what he produced against Siena (+11.2) and his offensive rating (157.1) trumped the 144.5 versus the Saints. As one last comparison, Maddox put up 31 points using 58 possessions yesterday, 30 points in 74 possessions at Jadwin on December 5th. Impressive numbers all around.

Deception.

There are not many chances on a college basketball court for slight of hand. No hiding the ball under your shirt during a dribble like a Harlem Globetrotter or the And1 Mixtape Tour. You can however use deception to your advantage occasionally. There aren't a lot of chances to properly deceive your opponent, and the spots must be chosen wisely.

Trailing 76-73 out of their final time out in double overtime at Tulsa, Princeton drew up a play that deceived the Golden Hurricane players and started the Tiger push to victory. I've diagrammed what occurred using screen captures from Tulsa's web broadcast after the jump.

Postgame audio - Coach Sydney Johnson:

Coming into the 2010-11 season, there were only eight games in the past 25 years in which a Princeton player scored 30 or more points.

The previous five times out, senior Tiger forward Kareem Maddox has eclipsed this mark twice.

Tulsa rallied from a six point deficit with two minutes to go in regulation, then made two free throws with 10 seconds left in overtime to force a second extra session - but with the Golden Hurricane up 76-73 and 1:30 remaining, it was Princeton who had the final surge in an epic game, outscoring the home team 9-2 for their fifth straight win.
