Big East play has been a struggle for Georgetown (10-3). The Hoyas have failed to break 50 points in both of their conference games and last night John Thompson III's team was embarrassed by Pitt, 73-45.
Around the Ivy League: Columbia (8-6) lost 78-69 at Holy Cross. Brown (5-8) recorded a 75-74 overtime triumph over Niagara. Dartmouth (3-10) concluded a seven game losing streak with their 75-58 home win against Army. Penn (2-12) will visit Jadwin on Saturday as losers of seven straight. The Quakers came from 15 down in the second half against Lafayette to tie but Steve Rennard's wide open three pointer in the final seconds sailed right and the Leopards held on for the 85-83 final.

Bill Carmody had Northwestern (9-6) utilize almost all of every possession at #9 Minnesota. It worked for a while, as the Wildcats trailed 19-18 early into the second half. A 23-5 run over the next seven minutes gave the Golden Gophers comfort the rest of the way.

Returning to action after the holidays, Mercer (11-4) went down 79-62 at CCRI. Mustafa El Amin scored 25 for the Vikings in defeat.
I had no idea that occasional Princeton J.V. player and pitcher Stephen Elmore was using the NCAA's grad student exemption to play a season of basketball at The Citadel.
Around the Ivy League: Penn (2-11) committed 21 turnovers in their 74-57 loss at La Salle. Columbia (8-5) won 64-52 at Army. Harvard (8-5) destroyed Rice by 30. Colgate made 10-13 three pointers in a 78-62 win at Dartmouth (2-10).
