Awards Banquet.

Princeton held its awards banquet at Jadwin Gym tonight.

The worthy recipients of honors at the 2009-2010 banquet included:

Class of 1959 Bob Rock Sixth Man Award - Kareem Maddox.
B.F. Bunn Trophy - Dan Mavraides & Marcus Schroeder.
Friedman Memorial Award Trophy - Nick Lake.

Douglas Davis and Mavraides also received special recognition from Coach Johnson.

My wife described the banquet experience perfectly midway through the evening, when she turned to me and whispered that she wished this event happened at the beginning of the year, because it made her extremely motivated and excited for a season we all must now wait six months for.

The four seniors gave quiet, touching speeches, with Lake and Schroeder capping an emotional night that ran longer than anticipated, but as Coach Johnson said - this is the last time this group is going to be together as a team, so the coaching staff was in no rush to move on.

Each senior was given a CBI shirt, an orange and black tie and a framed photograph of the scoreboard from the end of the Duquesne/Princeton game.

It remains an honor to attend this event, one of my favorite evenings of the year, even though I will not be able to look at Nick Lake again without thinking of either Robert Patrick or James Hellwig.

I am glad Douglas Davis got some kind words, because so much attention has been given to the seniors, the freshmen, Kareem's improvement, and somehow Douglas' achievements have become almost a given. He goes out there game after game and puts points on the board.

His ability to create his own shot is critical to our deliberate style of play, because when the offense has failed to create an open look and the shot clock is expiring, Douglas is The Man!

I neglected to mention in my initial post that the evening was dedicated to two men who could not be at Jadwin because of illness: Professor Marvin Bressler and George Boccanfuso.
