Chris Young said after Wednesday's game that his performance wasn't a statement, but another seven shutout innings to aid the Padres in an eventual 1-0 victory over Florida certainly didn't hurt his cause.
For the sixth time in the first half of the 2007 season, Young pitched seven or more innings without giving up an earned run. He leads the league in this category. Young lowered his ERA to 2.00, tied for best in all of baseball.
