Chris Young shook off a rough three run first inning before settling back closer to his pre-injury form. Young struck out the side in his fifth and final inning. The Padres pulled within 3-2 in the top of the eighth, but a double play left the tying run on third.
"I was better today than I've been," Young said. "There were a couple of times when I lost mechanics, but I felt like I threw the ball well. I don't evaluate on results. I threw the ball better today than my results [show]."
