New Recruit - Chris O'Brien.

We'd been looking across the Internet for confirmation on this name for several weeks, but didn't turn up an article until this afternoon. An August 2007 story from the Orange County Register mentions in passing that 6'4" Chris O'Brien of Northwood High School in Irvine, California has announced he plans to attend Princeton next year to play basketball.

O'Brien is the fourth publicly-revealed member of Sydney Johnson's first recruiting class.

Full Court Press described O'Brien as "a strong guard that is deceptively athletic and has the basketball IQ you would expect in a coach's son. O’Brien is a very good rebounder for his size, has a solid handle and can really finish in transition."

O'Brien played the point all four years in high school and averaged 19.6 ppg his senior year. He is taking a "gap year" between his June 2007 high school graduation and next fall. Like all Ivy League recruits, nothing is set in stone until the admissions department makes their decision.

O'Brien was named to the 2007 SCIBCA/AAF All-CIF Southern Section Division I-A second team and was selected third team all-county. ESPN's RecruitTracker lists O'Brien as the 134th best small forward in California the nation.

Jon, the ranking for O'Brien is as the #134 SF in USA, not as #134 SF in CA. (I checked all the prospects for 2007 in CA at all positions and there were only about 150 in total).

Also, the article you provided where Kampen listed IPFW and Princeton as his favorites also said he planned to decide before his HS season started. I haven't found anything yet showing where he plans to go to school.

Thanks for the correction, Bryan.

I've changed my post above.

Funny that ESPN would list a four year point guard as the nation's 134th best small forward!
