Updated Plus/Minus numbers.

With Princeton at the mid-point of Ivy play, the Tiger athletic department was nice enough to update this season's plus/minus numbers. I've generated my own Ivy-only and DI-only plus/minus numbers in Excel out of that document.

The first chart shows the number of minutes played across the first 23 games this season and the difference in points scored by Princeton while each player was on the floor versus points allowed by the Tigers during the same span.

The second chart shows the same information for non-conference games only, followed by non-conference versus DI opponents and Ivy-only data.

I've also broken down +/- per 40 minutes for all players who have seen at least 100 minutes of action and added Net/40 numbers ("Roland Rate") with inspiration from Hoya Prospectus. This data has been split into non-conference and Ivy-only as well.

Princeton has scored 1608 points to date, allowing 1451 points. The Tigers have scored 473 points, allowing 397 points in their Ivy games.

Individual single game high has changed: Dan Mavraides was +28 at Columbia.

Individual single game lows are unlikely to change: Ian Hummer and Mack Darrow were each -34 at Duke.

While Davis' +109 was the biggest increase, the largest swing into the black is Mack Darrow's -3 to a +89.

The most successful lineup combination?

Kareem Maddox, Douglas Davis, Dan Mavraides, Ian Hummer and Mack Darrow, who were +74 in 170:09 together.

The combination that has played the most together is also the most productive, scoring 20.6% of the team's points. This is one of 153 different lineup combos the Tigers have fielded.

The least successful five?

Maddox, Mavraides, Hummer, Connolly and Bray, combining to go -21 in 9:52 of play, outscored 25-4 in the process.

How much of Bray's minus rating (and correspondingly, Mack the Knife's positive rating) is due to the offensive/defensive platooning that Coach Johnson uses when he can get away with it?

I assume the +/- looks strictly at the change in score while the players are on the court...does the Roland Rating reflect expected points per possession so that stopping the opposition from scoring has roughly the same statistical effect as turning possessing the ball into two points?

Darrow's swing is not surprising given how good he has looked on the court in Ivy play. The offense seems to run the smoothest when he is at the 5.

I think Bray's platooning has created a larger negative than Darrow's minutes have created a false positive. Darrow's in plenty on defense.
