Sure, those headed to the Ivy League don't actually write their names on a National Letter of Intent, but that shouldn't stop each player's school from any pomp and circumstance they planned.
In a ceremony at Liberty High School on Monday, with admissions letters long since mailed out, Denton Koon made his selection of Princeton official.
Koon never wavered from his intention to play for the Tigers when Sydney Johnson left last month and a conversation with new coach Mitch Henderson the day Henderson was hired evaporated any anxiousness on Koon's part.
This is as good a time as any to run an email sent to me in late March from Liberty head coach Roger Stirtz updating everyone on his senior forward's progress since we first talked about Koon last August.
Read what Stirtz had to say after the jump.
Roger Stirtz - Head coach at Liberty Senior High School
Denton Koon had a tremendous senior season for us. Not only did he lead us in scoring (16.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg), he was one of our two outstanding leaders on and off the court. Here's a list of some of his accomplishments this year:
o All-State First Team
o All-District First Team
o All-Conference Player of the Year
o McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Team Nominee
o Missouri All-Star Team
o Finalist for DiRenna Award (One of the top five players in the KC Metro area)
o Selected to Dr. Pepper Midwest All-Star Classic
o Larry Holly Invitational All-Tournament Team - 2010
o C.W. Stessman Invitational Boy's Basketball All- Tournament Team
I look for Denton to have an excellent and productive off-season to prepare himself to make an impact at Princeton next season.
